This prenatal yoga session is aimed at women during their 2nd trimester who start to feel increased levels of energy and are visibly seeing her growing baby belly as the baby starts to kick and move, creating a stronger connection with mother and baby.
The hormone relaxin lubricates all the joints and connective tissue in the body, preparing the pelvis to open up and accommodate the baby to prepare for birth. This hormone impacts more than just the pelvis and affects the entire skeletal system. On one hand this may feel great as pregnant women are able to achieve higher flexibility but we must also learn to practice asana in a safe way or otherwise create instability in the joints that can cause future problems.
Asana is practiced to accommodate the growing bump, tone the muscles, strengthen the lower back. It is a time to fill the cup of vitality and mobility to be prepared for the later stages of pregnancy.
Alongside the physical asana practice, we use intention setting and relaxation for women to discover themselves more deeply throughout their pregnancy for self-care - to love, care and nurture themselves. It’s an opportunity to reflect and grow spiritually, to increase awareness of daily life.
