It has been estimated that up to 1 in 3 women who give birth may experience birth trauma. While most think that birth trauma is only physical, the truth is that it is often emotional and psychological. A big part of postnatal depression and experiences of trauma are significantly increased when women feel as though birth has happened “to them” rather than them being part of the process.
